This page begins the subsection of Bermuda-Triangle.Org devoted solely to Flight 19. The disappearance of this entire squadron of 5 US Navy Avengers was considered so extraordinary that it became the impetus for investigating the Bermuda Triangle. In 1962 Allan W. Ekert wrote a sensational piece in the American Legion Magazine. In it he introduced captivating dialogue between the “flight leader” and the “tower.” Legend, truth, myth and error sprang from that article, and to this day many people have a very confused or skewed view of Flight 19, the actual flight, men, the myth and, most importantly, the facts.
Much that is on this subsite has been up before and was taken down in 2005. It has now been replaced concurrent with the publication of Gian J. Quasar’s book They Flew into Oblivion, August 4, 2010. Quasar’s nonfiction exposé has long been expected. In manuscript form it helped inspire the Resolution in Congress on November 17, 2005. This subsection has been more than just a teaser. It has brought Quasar’s own theory of the Okefenokee Swamp into the fore of debate. Now that his book is out, this site acts as a good companion and will contain updates and information, as they become available.

Quasar is the first one to really investigate this phenomenal disappearance with an eye to putting in order what really happened. This led to uncovering a crucial piece of evidence that may lead to the final discovery of Flight 19. They Flew into Oblivion contains startling information on his search for the flight. For the first time all the dialogue spoken by the pilots is brought to light and placed into context. Photos never before seen are introduced to the public. Quasar offers some intriguing hypotheses plus chips away at popularized theories. Were search pilots dreaming when they heard the flight later that night? Was the flight leader, Lt. Charles Taylor, truly to blame? Were the pilots “simply following the leader” or did a subordinate take over?  Was there dereliction of duty on the part of the Navy? Who or what was really to blame? All this is answered before he explores the groundbreaking possibility the flight disappeared over land.

The “land of trembling earth” -- 700 square miles of it, plus 15,000 alligators, acidic water, peat, murk, carnivorous bugs and moving islands-- a legend of the lost that most Americans don’t even know exists. Quasar’s evidence has been so captivating it inspired his own search and History Channel and NBC have have spent thousands of dollars, following the leads to uncover the final resting place of the “Lost Squadron.”
